Time-Lapse Study of Nail Growth, made by Westminster Medical School in 1960 as a teaching aid, charts a single patient’s progress over several weeks of treatment for ringworm. A thumb nail, framed in extreme close-up, appears to gently pulse as each unit of daily growth is recorded, with a blackened area at thumb tip gradually replaced from the bottom up by encroaching crescents of healthy pink tissue.
